It is about more than a chicken sandwich!

A hot debate over the last few months has been Chic-fil-a. The two opposing opinions are that the owner had the right to say that he didn’t believe in gay marriage and the other side says that he doesn’t have the right to say this. The other major aspect of this debate is that it has been said that Chic-fil-a is funding “hate” groups.
My college campus is one that has joined on this band wagon of trying to remove Chic-fil-a. We even had a full fledge debate in front of the student body. It seems that the majority of my school feels that Chic-fil-a should remain on our campus. If social media tells you anything, over 400 students were on the “Keep Chic-fil-a” page while less than 40 were on the “Anti-Chic-fil-a” page.
I must say that I am with the students who want to keep Chic-fil-a on our campus. Chic-fil-a has said that they will quit funding the groups that have been labeled “hate” groups. I do not condone hate ever. Keeping this promise is incredibly important to me. If you look at the percentage of good organizations Chic-fil-a gives to, it is shows that they are not all about funding “hate” groups. Especially, when you see that it is a minimal amount that they had been giving these groups.
This whole debate and negative media attention has done nothing but help Chic-fil-a’s sales. Why is this? Because the customers of Chic-fil-a are also Christian believers that feel that marriage is between a man and a woman. It is their right to follow their Christian faith. I think that many people are confusing being anti-gay marriage and anti-gay as the same thing, when it isn’t. I know many people who feel marriage is meant for a man and a woman due to their faith that have gay friends and would never wish badly on a member of the LGBT community.
Also, I think that there are people who aren’t even with Chic-fil-a due to their faith, but are sticking with Chic-fil-a, because they are staying steady in their beliefs. It seems that so many people now-a-days will flip flop their beliefs, depending on the crowd they are with. I think that many people respect Chic-fil-a’s owner for being honest about his true beliefs. Also, who can really say that Chic-fil-a doesn’t have awesome food? I know that on our campus Chic-fil-a brings our campus a $200,000 profit and if they leave the student tuitions will most likely be raised. It will be interesting to see what the two people in charge decide when Chic-fil-a’s contract expires this May at my campus.

Fifty shades of awesome!

There have been many people who like to say that E.L. James isn’t a good writer and that the series Fifty Shades of Grey isn’t that good, but that can’t be true since the book sells about one per SECOND. I just finished the third book and I must say I loved the series! Don’t worry for those of you reading this I won’t give away anything in the story, but I will say the second one is my favorite! I won’t lie I read this book to jump on the bandwagon and I am glad I did!

I would recommend this series to anyone who isn’t too faint of heart, because some parts will make you blush! The media has pretty much just focused on the sexual aspect of this book, but I think there is much more to it. I believe this story has a real emotional story line, behind all the sex…hey I never said the book didn’t talk about sex a lot! There is a real story behind Christian and Ana’s relationship that isn’t just about sex so don’t let the media trick you into thinking this is nothing but an “Erotic” novel.

Besides the fact that I loved the story line, I also really like the author E.L. James. As I started to read the novel I started researching her a little, because I wanted to see what the person who wrote this book is like. Well, she is totally normal and seemed like a really nice person too. She is a mother of two and wrote the books mostly as she commuted to work everyday. She read the Twilight series and it sparked something in her to start writing.

Many people like to say, “Oh, you know that book started as fan fiction,” which has some negative connotation to it. Honestly, there were times in the beginning that I could see the Twilight influence, but this series separated itself from Twilight really well to were the connection to Twilight doesn’t ruin the story. I have always dreamt of writing a best-selling book so deep down I am hoping this will spark something in me to write my own series..but I don’t think mine will be much like 50 shades, because I just don’t think I can write quit like that (if you get what I am saying).

E.L. James received a $5 million dollar deal for the movie rights to the series and I must say, “Wow!” I am not so sure on how they will make this into a movie that isn’t rated X, but that doesn’t mean I won’t go see it either. My guess is they will focus on more of the actual story line then the main characters’ sexual relationship, which is just fine with me, because I loved the book for its story line. I also loved it for Christian Grey, but who doesn’t!? I am sure the movie won’t be as good as the books, because that is how it always works out, but I am interested to see what happens.

If you want to see what the author E.L. James is like check out this great interview!
